At the start of this year when I was writing these posts I questioned the time commitment I had signed myself up for. At that point I didn’t know of the increase in teaching and speaking commitments, or that the year would involve less actual progress on byflock and our products.
I knew these posts would take a bit of time every day and that it was something I wanted to do. I was prepared to dedicate 30-45 minutes a day to these posts. I knew that I’d write most of it on my way back from work and as I started writing them it became almost therapeutical. I found that things were falling into place. I was getting perspective on things and learning from putting down and organising my thoughts. But then my freelance related commitments increased and with that the hours left in the day after those commitments were taken care of where far and few in between. And writing the posts were harder. At times it came easy but other times I’d find myself sat down in front of the computer late at night trying to come up with a subject to write about rather than actually having something that I at the end of that day wanted to share. A useful lesson in how to write even when you don’t know what to write about, but not a great way to spend my time. When I didn’t know what to write about these posts could take close to an hour and at times more. And with spare time outside of freelance commitments being a very scare, that was valuable time that I didn’t want to spend on writing for writings sake. I wanted to work on byflock and write when I felt I had something that was worth sharing. That others could learn from or find valuable.
As I wrote about a few weeks back right now is about adding value in everything that I do. With byflock, my freelance business and writing blog posts. The time I spend need to make sense and be a good use of my time. And I need to focus my attention on doing things properly instead of a little here and there. Time is our most valuable resource and we should spend it wisely.
