This morning my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feed was filled with pictures of “traces” from Santa paying a visit and with Christmas greetings. But for me Christmas is pretty much over.
Since we celebrate on the 24th of December, the 25th becomes “the day after Christmas”. But I’m looking forward to this day having an increasing role to play in future Christmas celebrations. The time up to Christmas is the time I enjoy the most. It’s filled with anticipation and gatherings and I love the traditions that surround it. Despite our 6+ years together D and I have been celebrating Christmas in our respective countries each year, apart from the year when we were in Thailand. Every Christmas we exchange the normal teasing text messages of how Christmas Eve and Christmas Day respectively is not the real Christmas, according to one of us. All of that will change, particularly when we in the future have our own little family and our kids grow up with both Swedish and Welsh Christmas traditions.
Just as with creating a company and slowly constructing the culture you want to run through that company, the same can be done with traditions. Based on my childhood experiences and memories Christmas will always mean something specific to me. It contains a few particular ingredients and without those the feeling of Christmas just isn’t there in the same way. But it’s not to say that can’t be changed. By instilling and creating new traditions and new ways of doing things we’re able to over time create that particular sense of Christmas or belonging. And it’s something I’m really looking forward to. Both with our future Christmas celebrations and with byflock.
Tomorrow – Day 361 | Quality over quantity
