Today is what we call ‘Lillejul afton’ in Sweden. It’a little like Christmas Eve is for those countries who celebrate on the 25th and a time when families gather to officially beging the Christmas celebrations.
The term ‘Lillejul afton’ was first known in 1755 in Skåne, Sweden. Skåne, or Scania as it’s called in english, is the southern most province of our long country and also the part of Sweden I’m from and though we don’t normally have a white Christmas in Skåne, a bit of snow quite suitably fell today. The temperature is set to rise above freezing tomorrow so it will most likely be gone for Christmas, but at least we got a bit of a Christmassy feeling with snow outside today as we’re wrapping gifts, baking cakes, cooking and generally preparing for Christmas Eve, or ‘Julafton’ as we call it.
Tomorrow – Day 359 | Merry Christmas from Sweden
