It hasn’t been the most inspiring week, and coupled with something related to a particular life decision has made me feel less cheery. But, the week started out positive with how easy it can be to move the boundary between what you’re uncomfortable and comfortable with.
I’m talking about Monday’s drive up to Bedfordshire. How I played with the thought of finding another way to get there, not facing my nervousness, but how I decided to bite the bullet and drove on my own both there and back. It may seem like a small thing but to me it was big and completing that journey was a great reminder of how wonderful it feels to challenge what you doubt about yourself and how it makes you come out more confident on the other side. But also how easy it is. All it takes is an attempt and, at times, a bit of preparation to better prepare yourself for the task ahead. Once you get stuck into it the nervousness starts to disappear and once you’ve reached the finish line, then the smile spreads.
As much possible we should put ourselves in situations that push the status quo of where our boundaries lie of what we feel comfortable with. If we feel comfortable and never really get that “gulp” feeling, then it’s probably time to find a challenge. Something that we’re a bit nervous about.
