My biggest problem last week was having too much to do and too little time. Not an unusual situation. As a result I slept a little less and didn’t go for my morning runs. Also a common situation. But it made me feel worse and the longer commute didn’t help.
The tube can be frustrating as it is. Couple that with frustration that comes from sleeping too little as well as frustration with yourself for compromising the things that you know you need to get, sleep and exercise, it wasn’t a good combination. I felt…well…yuk.
Today it’s Monday and I’d promised myself to start afresh and be a better me. To sleep more and to go for my morning runs. I got up early as planned but as I sat down working away time started to slip between my fingers. That combined with the thought of standing on a crowded tube, which last week was continuously running slow, and then being late for work, I really didn’t fancy it. But more than anything I really didn’t like the idea of breaking my promise to myself on the first day of the week.
Rather than just go on as I did last week, take the tube and be frustrated, I looked up the cycle route to Battersea Bridge from where we live and decided that I was going to cycle to work. It’s around 8.5 miles (13.6 km) and it took me 40 minutes but it was just what I needed. The “fresh” air and moving about gave me lots of energy and starting the week with living up to my promise as well as tackling the thing about the day I wasn’t looking forward to, i.e. the commute, I felt great. And it was a good nudge to start of the week with – that sometimes just doing the thing we’re thinking about is so much easier than not and it will leave you feeling much better for it.
