It’s been a fantastic week here in London. Seeing the nation and the world come together and taking in all of the energy has really been amazing.
The effect the torch relay has had on communities and the feeling amongst people, as well as the well kept secret around the closing ceremony are both great examples of what bringing people together and truly making them feel like they are part of something can do. In the workplace being part of something and feeling that you make a difference are some of the key motivators and I dare say that celebrating forms part of that too.
Just as in and around the Olympics creating strong teams, feelings of pride and loyalty as well as working towards a great goal should be on every company’s agenda. The team is what will help you produce great work and what will get you through any challenge you may face, on a project, personally or in the company. Working on something that matters and where you feel you make a contribution is one of the biggest motivators. That combined with the loyalty that comes from feeling part of something you’re proud of and that matters is what will help retain the great people you’ve hired as well as make them help spread the world and talk of your company as the place to work. Jointly it’s part of what makes people want to get out of bed in the morning and that is no little thing.
