Science says there are a number of benefits to meditation. D has been doing it for a few years and swears by it. On Tuesday we were talking about meditation after work with the team and one of the girls mentioned that she’s using a service for meditation that, what do you know, also comes in app form. Yesterday I tried it.
When I still had a gym membership I used to do yoga a couple of times a week before work. It provided calmness and a great start to the day. I ended my gym membership and with that the yoga classes stopped. I’ve missed the peace of mind those classes helped provide and recently I’ve been thinking that I should get back into it and find a class close to where we live.
There was a time when stress from work was really getting to me. Over the years I’ve learnt to better manage it, but there is always room for improvement. With a little too full a schedule at the moment making sure I get a bit more headspace won’t harm and there are definitely times where I could do with clearing my head and stop dreaming about work. So yesterday I downloaded the app from Headspace (screenshot above) and did the first 10 minute session.
The app starts from the beginning so to speak and teaches you how to relax, breathing techniques and how it’s about mindfulness, being in the moment, clearing your head and acknowledging any thoughts that come into your mind and then send them on without judgment. It was incredibly peaceful an felt just like the yoga sessions or a good workout – cleansing for the head, but with the added benefit of complete relaxation and invigoration afterwards. So, as part of being a better me, eating, sleeping and making time, I’m adding in meditation.
