Day 072 | SXSW day 4

So, day three was brilliant and the parties were great. Day four was not, at least not the day itself. The lack of sleep was getting to me and so was the drinking and it meant that that my attention span was a bit compromised and I felt very uncomfortable.

This day reminded me of why I normally don’t drink very much. It affects me quite a lot the day after. Not in a hangover way (luckily), but in a negative state of mind kind of way, leaving me in a place I really dislike and which is quite destructive. I get anxious and nervous and feel very uncomfortable. As I’ve gotten to know the amount of drinks I can have before it kicks in I normally stop when I reach that point. Only on Sunday I didn’t. It’s worth it every now and again and Sunday was one of those occasions. I had such a great time but it did mean that I was a bit off the day after.

It’s a little bit tricky being in a place like SXSW where the drinks are flowing and the pressure is on to join in. As much as I understand why it does still puzzle (and slightly annoy) me why there is a need amongst other people for everyone else to also drink, but I tend to ignore it and stick to not drinking and that’s what I did on Monday night. We joined the Lean Startup Machine team from New York at the Warby Parker Citizen Circus for a chilled start to the evening before walking back into town where we played a bit of ping pong before heading over to catch up with a few friends at the party of the evening (besides Jay Z that is). It was lovely and a lot of fun (and yes I was absolutely sober) and I ran into Tom May from .net Magazine. It took us half an hour before we realised that we’ve emailed quite a bit with regards to the article I had published in .net Magazine. One of the funny but yet so classical aspects of how you at SXSW run into people from back home that you haven’t met before but know through one way or another.
