Other than the regular 5 of vegetables and fruit, I have another set of 5 a day that I’m trying to stick to.
1. Sleep – to prioritise sleep and make sure I get enough.
I’m bad at this. I love early mornings, when the day and the city hasn’t yet woken up. It’s easy when there aren’t enough hours in the day to try to cram more in by sleeping less. I’m pretty good at this, but it isn’t sustainable and it affects everything else negatively. So, my first and most important 5 a day is to sleep more.
2. Exercise – to get out and clear my head, and to make myself tired physically.
When I lack sleep, or time this is the first thing that goes but without it I can’t concentrate.
Just as I have work related goals I have exercise related ones.
3. Time off – to make sure I don’t work every day and that I take time off.
With so much you want to do and at times have to do it’s easy to be in constant work mode. But recharging the batteries is important and so is being off when you’re off. Having the time to do the things I want to do and be with the people I want to see is crucial. Unless I’m happy outside of work I’m not going be happy during work, or do good work.
4. Time – to set aside time and stick to it and to be conscious of how I spend it.
I’m trying to have some form of routine where I work on the ideas. With so many things that compete for the hours in the day, making sure I have time to work on these things and try to stick to them is really important to make sure they progress.
5. Joy – to find the little things in every day.
Whether that be a goal or a task that I achieve, or the little thing that makes me smile, finding joy is what’s going to keep me going.
