Every product and service that we use exist because someone decided they were going to do it. Every company that we work for has started as an idea and then taken a physical form when a decision was made to make it happen.
As I get further into my competitor analysis and research, the question of risk and differentiation is ever present and whether what I have in mind is different enough. I wrote about this on Day 008 | Excitement and an old colleague of mine from Dare wrote a very wise comment so I’ll leave you with her words:
…to start up something new commercially you don’t HAVE to do something different but you do have to do something WELL. That can become a point of difference to your competitor in itself over time and I guess there is something of the myspace/Facebook idea in that statement. They have a similar overall idea/same category but lots of small differences which make one better than the other…
