Week 41 was the week we moved the office to the coffee shops of New York and the week where I, after much resistance, joined foursquare.
Our week renting a flat in the West Village has been truly special. Not only did we get the local experience that we wanted, it felt like we were there for a very long time. Something that was really needed and also provided a mix of holiday and space to
I haven’t written a post since Sunday (on the actual day it was supposed to be written). I’m falling behind. The more days that passes the more it takes to catch up and today is our last day full day in New York. The last thing I want to do
The picture above is of a small cat flap we found across from a restaurant up in Nolita on Manhattan. It’s for Thomas the Cat and, by the looks of it, made specifically for him.
Today we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and back taking us from the world of Manhattan to the world of Brooklyn. Though the views are seldom as beautiful we cross and build bridges every day in what we do.
Procrastinating and putting things off is something most of us do once in a while. Longer deadlines means we can keep putting things off a little longer. Shorter deadlines means any procrastination period is shorten substantially and sometimes that can be rather good.
Tonight I ran my Designing for multiple devices class over at General Assembly in New York. It’s thanks to a visit there back in March that I started teaching in London so it was good to do it over here where it all started.
When you’re exploring something new you need to be mindful of your steps and the roads you walk down. One wrong turn can take you down a bad one and unless you pay attention land you in a tricky situation.
Tonight night we met up with some friends from back home who moved to New York about a year ago. As we were sat having dinner we discussed how living abroad subjects you to situations that you initially may be less comfortable with but soon take as being completely natural.
A year ago I hadn’t been to this amazing city. Tonight I arrived for the third time and we got a week here ahead of us exploring a more non-touristy stay.
With a kitty doing her best to help out, the bags are now all packed and tomorrow we’re off to New York for a week.
Today is one of those days when life seems to be sending you a few hints and nudges to stop and look up. To think a bit extra about how we go about our lives and the loved ones that we share it with.
This morning I saw a post which essentially suggested that you should use really cheap freelancers to help you build a website that you don’t really need to do anything with other than take care of the substantial yearly earning it will bring you.
In my last permanent job I line managed part of the IA/Experience planning team. The most rewarding part with that was to help and watch them grow, to be able to pass on some of the things that I’d learnt and been taught, but also to learn from them.
On Friday we’re moving the office to New York for a week and boarding that flight I’ll be out of the country for pretty much two weeks so there’s quite a lot to get in order before we go.
On Monday I’ll be teaching my Designing for multiple devices classes over at General Assembly here in London for the third time. And for the third time it’s pretty much sold out.
The other day I wrote about the importance of being honest and how it’s not uncommon for early stage startups in particular to experience some complications due to lack of communication.
Yesterday I went to an event at TechHub around making the most of mobile shopping. The panel was jointly hosted by TechHub, eBay and PayPal and gave some great insights around trends and developments as well as inspiration.
A while back I read a BBC article on how we back in the days used to sleep in cycles with awake periods in between. The other day I stumbled over another article on the same matter from the NY Times. Both made me want to try it. Until today
Though the list of things to do never gets completely down to zero, a handful of things related to my goals around speaking and writing have been ticked off and that means that for now that part of my to do list is officially cleared.
