We’ve had more rain than ever before (or at least in a really long time) here in London over the past month. But the sun is finally out and I’m having the whole day off.
I can’t remember when I’ve had a full day off this year, apart from when I’ve been back home or had people visiting. Normally I find myself doing a little bit of work even if I’ve said I’ll be off. It might be as little as catching up and reading a couple of articles, writing down a few ideas or doing something small related to byflock or our products. The thing is that I love it so it’s not really a problem. Only it is.
The weekend is there for a reason. We’re supposed to have time off and do nothing related to work. We need it to let our brains rest, to let all the things we’ve learnt and all the impressions we’ve had during the week fall into their respective pockets. For connections to be made between them and for getting some distance and perspective on things. So it is a problem that I don’t take more full days off. There needs to be at least one day of the week where you do something else. But it’s tricky when you like me am working full time and work on your company on the side.
So far I’ve taken either the morning or afternoon completely off and done a bit of work when at home and D is doing something else. If I’m honest I think that’s what’s going to keep happening every now and again, but I will try to take more full days off and work a bit longer and more concentrated on the day during the weekend when I do work.
The one thing I’m conscious of is that all this dubble whammy working mustn’t take the fun out of byflock and turn it into a shore. It’s no way near that at the moment but it’s still something to be mindful of when the schedule is as busy as it is.
