Day 064 | Week 9 summary

Week 9 has been the week where my contract over at the BBC ended and where I finally got to spend some proper time on our company. It’s been one full on week.

The last few days at the BBC were busy and we ended up leaving the office an hour later than expected on the day I left. I had a lovely send off from the team and am so pleased with all the kind words and the 10 months I spent over there.

First few days working focused on this

Thursday was my first day “off” and also the first of 17 days working on our company. It flew by, just as the last couple of days have done. The first few days were mainly filled with various research and endless admin from calling what will hopefully be our accountant, to setting up meetings, writing emails to prospect people to involve, to chatting to companies house, chasing delivery of our business cards, sorting out email login, signature, NDAs, writing copy, reviewing designs etc. The weekend has been a little less admin and with the majority of that out of the way more focused work can be done Monday-Tuesday next week.

Learning as we go

I mentioned, on Day 059, that working on this is a little like being a one man band (despite not being in it on my own) and that’s certainly proved true. We need to know a little about everything and being a very small company it’s only us who can do it so we’re learning as we walk, or rather run, but it’s incredibly rewarding, if somewhat tiring. From e.g. previously having no knowledge of equity and shares I now know enough to have an informed conversation about it.

The reveal that didn’t happen

We meant to do a little reveal on Friday but due to one outstanding confirmation that we need we couldn’t go ahead and it proved out for the better. Sometimes, a day or two extra will work in your favour and this was one of those cases.
