One of the beautiful things in life is how a seemingly small event or decision can end up shaping your future. You can often look back at certain points in your life and conclude that those were the ones that led you down the road you’re now on.
There are a few of these in my life and I like to believe that I’d still be sat right here with D and the spotty one in our flat in London, had it not been for that trip to Cyprus back in 1998. But who knows if I’d still somehow would made my way to Copenhagen and later on London.
I’m a strong believer in that there is a meaning to everything and yesterday I went for dinner with one of ‘Yellow’ (see Day 004 | Planting seeds) to share my ideas. It was the first time I properly talked through them and as we were talking new ideas came to life.
I like this about ideas. They have a tendency to take on a life of their own. By being open to feedback and other people’s thinking you put the thing you had in mind into perspective. Perhaps it grows stronger. Perhaps it fades away. Perhaps it gives birth to something different. It doesn’t really matter. One way or another your understanding of it will become clearer and that will help you identify whether it’s worth pursuing or not. It will also help you understand what it is that you really believe in and want to work on.
Talking through my ideas yesterday that feeling of what it is that I want to focus on grew even stronger. But there was also another aspect to it and that’s that as long as I’m doing something that I enjoy working on, whether that things launches or not it will still teach me something. And it will still lead somewhere, even if it “just” sparks a new idea. So, if I decide not to pursue one of my ideas, I’ll still share the research and rational with you so you can have a look for yourself. Perhaps you don’t agree with me and perhaps it could lead to something taking shape over at your end.
