I’m a sucker for new beginnings and had planned to kick off this year with healthier habits etc. etc. but the only muscles I’ve been exercising are the ones involved with coughing, and handwriting.
When the girls were little I thought I’d always, and easily, remember their firsts. The date they smiled for the first time, laughed, got their first tooth, said their first word, walked etc. Turns out I don’t remember so easily but instead have to scroll back through Instagram, messenger, WhatsApp and text messages to family members to see when I shared those proud moments.
Back in December when I was out looking for Christmas gifts I stumbled across these 5-year journals. I’ve known about them for years but then, funnily enough, forgotten about them. Once I spotted them in the shop I promised myself I’d get one for myself and one for each of our girls before 2022 ended. And so we did. We each picked our colours. Blue for baby girl, green for big sis and pink for me.
There isn’t much room to write and I could easily write a bit more but this is better than nothing and I’m quite enjoying the process. It becomes a reflection of the day that was, a practice in writing something every day (a habit I’m a big advocate of), and I like the commitment to our girls – to take the time to write down a few lines about each of our days so there is something to refer back to.
Writing something for each day in our books is about the closest I have to a resolution this year. It’s more of a silent promise to our girls and a habit I’d like to get into for me, and so far I’ve stuck with it. Once the cough goes I’ll get back to those healthier habits too 🙂
